Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Knights Fall on Late Goal to Ithaca, 1-0

Ithaca, NY – For the second time in the last three games, the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team saw a late goal pull away a tie, as the Golden Knights fell 1-0 to Ithaca College on a score with just over two minutes remaining on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights dropped to 6-3-2 overall and 1-3-0 in Liberty League contests, while the Bombers improved to 7-2-1 and 2-1-0. Clarkson will have its final regular-season home games next weekend when the team hosts Bard College and Vassar College at Hantz Field.

Just like the game last Saturday, Lillian Gillett had a scoring chance in the first minute of the contest, as the Knights took the ball away and quickly had a transition with Gillett taking a shot from about 12 yards away that was saved by Ithaca goalkeeper Grace Hickey. Only a minute later, Ithaca had a scoring opportunity, too, as Clarkson goalkeeper Molly DiCaprio came out to cut down an angle and was outmaneuvered by an Ithaca forward. Fortunately for the Knights, the ball was so deep into the offensive end that a cross was necessary for a shot, and the ball was cleared away.

In the second half, DiCaprio was challenged a couple of times in close, as a free kick into a header gave Allison Heft a shot in close that was stopped. A few moments later a Clare Sunderland shot was smothered by DiCaprio to keep the game scoreless. Clarkson also had a chance down the stretch as an Emily Colby header off a corner ended up just off target.

Ithaca got its lone goal of the game in the waning moments. Off a throw in from the right side, the ball was worked around in the midfield and Katelyn Fernandez received a pass to take the ball in deep near the bottom of the penalty box. A quick pass back in front found Rosie Bostian, who had time to settle the ball and pick her spot away from DiCaprio, as the Bombers picked up their goal with just 2:08 remaining in the game.

Ithaca led in shots (11-8), shots on goal (5-2), and corner kicks (4-2). DiCaprio made four saves for the Knights while Hickey had two stops for Ithaca.
