Early Second Half Scores Send Knights to 3-1 Win over Bard

Potsdam, NY – Showing patience in the second half to let plays develop, the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team picked up two goals in the first 17 minutes of the second period to run away with a 3-1 victory over Bard College on Friday afternoon.

The Golden Knights ended a three-game losing streak with the victory, moving to 7-3-2 overall and 2-3-0 in conference games, while the Raptors dropped to 4-6-1 and 0-4-1. Clarkson will celebrate its eight seniors on Saturday prior to its game against Vassar College.

Clarkson outshot Bard 11-3 in the first half, but didn't have many chances on the Raptors' goal. The best scoring chances came off corners, but Seymone Rosenberg corralled the crosses before the plays could develop. It wasn't until midway through the half that the Knights had their best opportunity, as Arin Bates was tripped from behind in the box on the far right side of the penalty area. Junior Chloe Hodge was selected as the Clarkson player to take the penalty kick, and she did not disappoint her teammates in burying her shot at 29:49.

The Knights began to play from the outsides a bit more in the second half and the results came quickly against the Raptors. Clarkson picked up its second goal of the game off a quick transition when a Golden Knights' throw in bounced off a Bard player back to Riley Irvin in the Clarkson defensive end. The ball cleared midfield and a collision set up Emma Robinson to tap a pass to Chloe Hodge on the right side. Hodge waited for the spacing to set, as Robinson filled in closer to center. Hodge then found Robinson for a two-on-one, as Robinson tapped a pass to Brooke Everest near the top of the box, and Everest took one touch before tapping the ball in with the side of her right foot at 56:26.

Five minutes later the Knights scored again with Hodge helping the play develop again from the right side. Her cross in front was dropped by Rosenberg near the post, and without hesitation Lillian Gillett volleyed the ball in with her right foot at 61:35.

Bard would get on the scoreboard late in the game when Maya Farwell was taken down in the penalty area. Kylie Quinn took the ensuing penalty kick and converted on the right side at 73:10.

Clarkson finished with a 24-9 edge in shots (9-3 shots on goal) and also had a 7-2 lead in corners. Molly DiCaprio made one stop in the first 67 minutes and Ava Pushor made one save in the final 23 minutes for the Knights, while Rosenberg had six saves for Bard.
