CU Women's Basketball Preview - at Rensselaer/Ithaca (1/13-14)

Winners of three straight, the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team starts a seven-game road streak this weekend when the team heads downstate to take on Rensselaer and Ithaca.

The Series: The Golden Knights are 22-56 all-time against Rensselaer, having last beaten the Engineers in the 2018-19 season. Ithaca has won 20 of 27 meetings against Clarkson, including all eight since the Bombers joined the Liberty League in 2017. Prior to that, the two teams hadn't met since the 1999-2000 season, where Clarkson picked up a seven-point victory.

Key Stats for Clarkson (5-5, 1-3 Liberty League): The Golden Knights' offense has been clicking in the New Year, as the team has averaged 74.3 points per game during its three-game winning streak. Sophomore Cassidy Dumont still leads the conference in scoring at 16.2 points per game, but others have stepped up in recent games. Senior Elaina Porter has averaged 17.5 points per contest in the two games, upping her season average to 9.9 ppg, while freshman Raelin Burns has been contributing 13.7 points per game since the beginning of 2023.

Key Stats for Rensselaer (6-6, 3-2 Liberty League): Ashlyn O'Neil is the Engineers' top scorer, providing 13.0 points per game on 45.1% shooting from the floor and 82.4% from the free throw line. Marley Mueller is also chipping in 9.1 points per game. Nicole DaPra contributes in several facets on offense, producing 8.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game, while Heather Converse is also a frequent double-double threat, averaging 7.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.

Key Stats for Ithaca (10-2, 5-0 Liberty League): The Bombers, ranked 23rd in the latest d3hoops.com poll, have only suffered two losses, both to teams currently ranked in the top 10 in the country. Only Emily Dorn is averaging double figures at 10.7 points per game, but eight players have are averaging at least five points per game. The team also is very unselfish, as eight players have at least 10 assists this year. Natalie Smith (8.6 ppg) and Cara Volpe (8.4 ppg) are second and third on the team in scoring.
