Knights Drop Final Game of Series to St. Lawrence, 13-6

Canton, NY – Tommy Bianchi hit a three-run home run for the Clarkson University Baseball team, but that late-inning blast was not enough for a comeback as the Golden Knights dropped a 13-6 decision to St. Lawrence University on Sunday afternoon.

The Golden Knights saw their mark fall to 7-14 overall and 4-7 in Liberty League games while St. Lawrence rose to 14-13 and 3-9. Clarkson has a busy week ahead if the weather holds, playing at SUNY Canton on Tuesday, hosting a doubleheader against RPI on Wednesday, and then heading to Ithaca for a three-game set next weekend.

For the third straight game against the Knights, St. Lawrence was able to score in its first at bat. Caleb Clarke and Jake Delaney each delivered run-scoring hits to put the Saints up 2-0, but a passed ball on a walk to Caleb Doyle in the top of the second allowed the Knights to get on the board when Sean Eddington crossed the plate.

An inning later, Delaney singled again to drive in a run for the Saints, but Clarkson came back to tie the game 3-3 in the top of the fourth. Kent Wilson drove in a run with a shot back to the pitcher to score Michael Tito, and a double from Mike Nee sent Doyle home.

However, in the bottom of the fourth, St. Lawrence scored five runs and never relinquished the lead the rest of the way. The big blow came on a two-run single from Brett Federico, but back-to-back doubles from Caleb Clarke and Jake Delaney really pushed the advantage forward for St. Lawrence.

In the seventh, with the Knights down by three, Bianchi hit a three-run shot to score Michael Mieczkowski and Joe Pagano to put the score at 9-6, but that was all Clarkson would get. The Saints tallied four in the bottom of the eighth to truly close out any hopes of late-game heroics from Clarkson.

Wilson and Bianchi each had two hits in five at bats in the game, and Tito was 2-for-3 in the contest for Clarkson.
