Racey Throws Complete-Game Five-Hitter, Brouillette Homers Twice in Knights 11-2 Win

Potsdam, NY – Junior Colby Brouillette hammered two home runs and senior Griffin Racey was masterful over nine innings as the Clarkson University Baseball team picked up an 11-2 victory over SUNY Canton in non-league action on Tuesday at Jack Phillips Stadium.

The Golden Knights, playing as the visiting team since the game was originally scheduled in Canton, improved to 8-14 on the season while the Kangaroos fell to 9-25. Clarkson has a doubleheader against RPI scheduled for Wednesday.

Clarkson scored 11 runs on just seven hits in the game, but took advantage of seven bases on balls and eight hit by pitches for extra baserunners. The Knights scored twice in the first as Caleb Doyle led off with a walk and then scored on a double by Brouillette, and the Clarkson designated hitter later came around on a sacrifice fly by Tommy Bianchi.

Brouillette hit a solo homer to right-center in the third for Clarkson's third run, and the Knights opened things up with four in the fourth. Kent Wilson drove in Robert Fratangelo with a single, and Doyle came around on a bobble by the rightfielder to make the score 5-0. With Wilson on third after the error, Brouillette followed with a long blast over the right field fence that ended up on the berm well beyond wall to make the score 7-0.

Canton scored one in the bottom of the fourth and then another in the sixth, but Clarkson's Griffin Racey fielded his position well, as did the rest of the Clarkson infield. The Knights turned two double plays, one started by Racey and another by Gerard Mouton late in the game. Mouton also was solid at third after making an early error, making numerous solid back hands throughout the contest.

Clarkson added four runs in the ninth, but did so with just one hit. Fratangelo singled in a pair in the inning, with the other two runs coming home on a sacrifice fly and a bases loaded walk.

Racey tossed a complete game, allowing only five hits over nine innings with no walks and one strikeout for his first win of the season. Brouillette was 3-for-5 with four RBI and three extra-base hits. Fratangelo scored twice and drove in two, and Doyle scored two and drove in one.
