Knights Claim Third Straight Win in Conference with 74-51 Victory Over Bard

Potsdam, NY – Lauryn Withrow continued her strong run of shooting as of late, as the freshman scored a team-high 16 points in the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team's 74-51 Liberty League victory over Bard College on Friday evening at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights won their third straight conference game to improve to 4-7 in league and 5-12 overall, while Bard dropped to 1-13 and 0-9. Clarkson will take on one of the top teams in the conference on Saturday when it hosts Vassar College.

The Raptors and Knights traded baskets in the early going, but a pair of layups with a free throw at the end from Withrow and Elaina Porter gave Clarkson a bit of breathing room in the first quarter. After a make from Veronica Tache put the Knights up by nine, Clarkson held a solid lead for the remainder of the first quarter, and settled with a nine-point advantage after 10 minutes.

Back-to-back layups from Christina Kiser early in the second quarter pulled Bard within five, but the Knights responded with a 9-2 run, capped off by a Porter layup at the 7:36 mark and forcing the Raptors to take a timeout. Clarkson's lead edged out to as many as 13 and the Knights maintained a double-digit advantage until late in the half, but a 3-pointer from Olivia Couture and a free throw from Kiser trimmed the deficit to seven at the half.

Bard was cold in the third quarter, missing all 14 of its shots from the field and scoring only two on a pair of free throws. The Knights took advantage by scoring 19 in the quarter on 8-for-19 shooting and increased their lead to over 20 points through three periods. From that point on, Clarkson emptied its bench and the Knights were able to maintain their sizeable lead for the remainder of the contest.

Withrow shot 6-for-9 from the floor for 16 points, also adding in six rebounds for the Knights. Elaina Porter scored all 11 of her points in the first half and Cassidy Dumont chipped in 10 points. For Bard, Christina Kiser scored 32 points on 9-for-26 shooting from the field and a 13-for-14 effort from the free throw line. She also had 12 rebounds.
