Knights Open Up Home Schedule with Big Win, Roderick Hits Century Mark

Potsdam, NY – Eight different players scored a goal and five of those players scored more than one as the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team rolled to a 21-1 win over SUNY Canton Thursday evening at Hantz Field.

The Golden Knights improved to 1-1 on the season and will be challenged by SUNY Cortland on Saturday afternoon at Hantz Field. The Kangaroos dropped to 0-1 after the season-opening loss.

Clarkson dominated in every facet of the game, out shooting Canton 42-3 (34-3 shots on goal), winning 17 of 23 draws, gaining 23 of the 33 groundballs, and holding Canton to just an 8-for-17 success rate on clears.

Abigail Johnson converted less than three minutes into the game and the Golden Knights never trailed, scoring six times in the first 10 minutes of the contest. Kyrsten Stone was particularly busy, scoring five goals and adding two assists within Clarkson's first 10 goals of the contest, which took just 21 minutes to compile. The Knights added three more goals in the final six-plus minutes, including a goal by Julia Nicotra with just 10 seconds left, again assisted by Stone.

Other contributors began to make their way onto the stat sheet in the second half to make it a well-rounded effort for the Knights. Stone finished with nine points on six goals and three assists, Grace Hagberg recorded four goals, Nicotra scored three times and Julia Lavarnway also added three goals. Abigail Johnson had two goals and six draws, while Hagberg tied her for the team lead in the latter category. Lavarnway and Stone each had four groundballs, and Stone also caused three turnovers.

Clarkson also had a bit of history on Thursday evening, as midway through the first half, Sydney Roderick assisted on a goal by Kyrsten Stone, giving her 100 points for her Clarkson career. It took the junior just 25 career games to hit the century mark, making her the 19th player in program history to reach that scoring level.
