Middlebury, VT – Another slow start caused early trouble for the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team, but the Golden Knights kept things close in the final three quarters in falling to Babson College 75-47 on Sunday afternoon.

The Golden Knights fell to 0-2 on the season while Babson improved to 3-0, running their winning streak to 14 games dating back to last year. Clarkson opens up the home portion of its schedule on Tuesday when it hosts SUNY Potsdam.

Clarkson struggled in the first quarter, shooting just 2-for-10 from the floor, and quickly found itself down by 18 after the first 10 minutes (22-4). However, the Knights' offense broke out with 19 points in the second quarter, shooting 7-for-12 from the field and was able to keep the contest within striking distance.

The third and fourth quarters were also close, as Babson extended its halftime lead by only five over the final 20 minutes.

Junior Mariah Benavides led the Knights in scoring with 11 points while senior Maddie Pratt chipped in eight. Ruthie Nolan had five points and five rebounds.

For Babson, Kelly Walsh scored a game-high 22 points, shooting 9-for-12 from the floor in 18 minutes of play. She was the lone Beavers' player to reach double-figures, though Anika Chinthakunta was close with nine points in 14 minutes.
