Knights Open 2021-22 With Defeat at Middlebury

Middlebury, VT – The inexperience of the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team showed up in the season-opener against Middlebury College, as the Golden Knights dropped the first game of 2021-22 to the Panthers, 87-29.

The Golden Knights will be back in action on Sunday afternoon when they take on Babson College. Clarkson's home portion of the schedule begins on Tuesday against crosstown rival SUNY Potsdam.

Clarkson struggled in the opening quarter, turning the ball over against frequent pressure against the Panthers. The Knights were strong on the boards in the first half, trailing by just three to the Panthers, but Clarkson was just 4-for-20 from the floor while the Panthers were only two shots short of 50% from the field (15-for-33).

Lauryn Withrow finished with seven points in 20 minutes, shooting 3-for-6 from the floor, while Maddie Pratt also went 3-for-6 and ended up with six points for the Knights. Elaina Porter also chipped in six points and Ruthie Nolan led the team with eight rebounds.

Middlebury took advantage of Clarkson's miscues to the tune of 39 points off turnovers and scored 28 points on the break. Alexa Mustafaj led the team with 24 points, shooting 10-for-16 from the floor and she was also busy on defense with seven steals. Claire Miller went 5-for-8 from the field for 14 points for the Panthers.
