Baker Earns CoSIDA All-Star Academic Honors

Senior Jacob Baker of the Clarkson University Swim team was recently chosen as a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection. The Fairport, NY native was named to the 2020 Academic District 3, NCAA Division III Men's At-Large Team. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom.

Baker becomes the second member of the Golden Knights' swim program to earn CoSIDA academic recognition, joining Kristen Larsen '09 who earned the honor twice (2008 and 2009).

Unlike years past, the awards through CoSIDA this spring were based upon cumulative grade-point average and career athletic accomplishments rather than the cumulative grade-point average and the honors and highlights from a singular season.

Baker was a standout in the classroom and in the pool. An Electrical Engineering major, he compiled a 3.95 grade point average.  Baker broke a 23-year-old school record in the 200 butterfly (1:53.73) at the Liberty League Championship meet this past February and owns or is part of five school marks. He finished in the top 10 in five different events at the League Championships in his junior and senior years. Baker set top times in 200 butterfly (1:53.48), 100 butterfly (50.99) and 200 backstroke (1:54.79) as senior.

Baker became the eighth student-athlete from Clarkson to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors this year, joining Maddie Bredehoeft (volleyball), Devin Brosseau (men's hockey), Nate Burns (baseball), John Furcick (men's soccer), Kate Isaksen (volleyball), Danielle Martin (women's soccer) and Ian Roeloffs (men's soccer).

Clarkson's All-Time CoSIDA All-Academic Selections

At-Large selections are for sports that do not have their own Academic All-District teams, including (for men's sports) lacrosse, rifle, skiing, fencing, swimming, tennis, golf, volleyball, gymnastics, water polo, hockey, and wrestling.

Honorees selected first-team Academic All-District® will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. Academic All-America® honorees will be announced from June 16-19.
