Clarkson Athletics Announces End of Year Award Winners

5/18/2020 1:57:00 PM

The awards were somewhat revamped for 2019-20 since spring sports were unable to complete their respective seasons, so this year instead of a Male/Female Athlete of the Year, etc., in some instances the awards were limited to the fall and winter seasons, with individual spring sport excellence also recognized.

"Jon and Joe both had very good starts to our shortened season for first year players.  Both of them played well offensively and defensively.  Very deserving of the Co-Rookie of the year award." - Clarkson Head Baseball Coach Jim Kane

BowenMVP
"Hannah Bowen is the athlete every coach tries to find while out recruiting: academically focused, passionate about her sport, extremely hard working, tremendous teammate and all around quality human being. On a team with four seniors, her teammates looked to her as their measuring stick. Hannah lives our values everyday because they are the same values that define her. Seeing her season shortened is so disappointing because she was on her way to having a career season." - Clarkson Head Softball Coach Kristen McGaughey

PageRookie
"Riley showed so much promise in her outings against powerhouse teams. She is a player who relentlessly strives for perfection at practices but is able to trust and let loose in games. If she keeps down the same path she started this year she can have an incredible career for CUSB." - Clarkson Head Softball Coach Kristen McGaughey

StCroixMVP
"Liam St. Croix has been a two year captain chosen by his peers as well as an Honorable Mention All American.  He is a leader by example with a great work ethic both on and off the field.  I can't think of a more deserving player for our athlete of the year award.  We are certainly hoping he decides to come back and use his last year of eligibility." - Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Bill Bergan

GeigerRookie
"Sebastian Geiger was beginning to understand just how good he can be at the college level before our season was cut short.  He is a big, strong athletic offensive player that we used both at attack and midfield.  He not only works hard on his game in practice but he is also a very hard worker in the weight room.  I am looking forward to watching his success these next few years."  - Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Bill Bergan
ScaiaMVP
"Steph is a great player and even better teammate and person.  She played almost every minute of every game in her career, giving everything she had each game.  Our program will truly miss Steph's leadership on the defensive end of the field.  I am so happy that her teammates recognized how valuable she has been to our success over her career." - Clarkson Women's Lacrosse Head Coach Ben Gaebel

LavanarwayRookiwe
"Julia is one of the most genuine people I have ever coached.  She works hard each day and strives to better her game every day.  I am so excited what her Golden Knight career has in store for her, she has all league potential and I think her growth as a player will be off the charts." - Clarkson Women's Lacrosse Head Coach Ben Gaebel

RustMVP
"Chris will be one of those players that I will never forget. He is an exceptional leader, captain, teammate, and student. Chris led our team in just about every round of competitive golf this season. He is a very talented young man on and off the golf course, and I'm sure he will find success in whatever the future holds for him. Hopefully, our underclassmen have learned from Chris's leadership and determination, and that they carry those traits into seasons to come." - Clarkson Head Golf Coach Brian Fairchild

"Winning team MVP for the Golf team was something I aspired to do coming to Clarkson prior to freshman year. The past few years I have had great leadership from the upperclassmen along with good coaching and work ethic throughout my time. Combining these things provided me with the capabilities to reach my true potential, and it was very nice to see it rewarded by being voted for the Golf team MVP." -Chris Rust

DitzelRookie
"We saw confidence in this young man from a very early part of the season. We were able to throw him into the lineup quickly, and he proved that he can compete at this level. I see this young man moving his way into a leadership role as he progresses through his collegiate career." - Clarkson Head Golf Coach Brian Fairchild
