2/5/2020 11:11:00 AM

Minneapolis – From a select group of 13 nominees, Clarkson University's Devin Brosseau has been chosen as a Top 5 Finalist for the 2020 Hockey Humanitarian Award, presented annually to college hockey's "finest citizen" for leadership in community service.

The 25th recipient of the Hockey Humanitarian Award will be honored in a ceremony on Friday, April 10th as part of the NCAA Men's Frozen Four weekend in Detroit, Michigan. Additionally, the Hockey Humanitarian Award Foundation will make a donation to the charity most important to each of the five finalists. These donations are made possible with the generous support of the award's partners and donors.

Displaying the best examples of what college athletics embodies, Brosseau is the consummate student-athlete. Throughout his four years at Clarkson, he has been an influential leader and a well-rounded individual, whose impact has been realized on the Golden Knights' Men's Hockey team, the campus, and more broadly in the community.

"Devin always helps in our community with various service projects and is always ready to donate his time, but this season has been a whole new level of commitment to projects that he feels strongly about," stated Clarkson Head Coach Casey Jones. "It is truly remarkable that Devin finds the time in his schedule to be fully engaged in the Clarkson and Potsdam Communities. Devin is recognized as a leader on campus and viewed as a great teammate that is unselfish and understands the virtues of giving. I truly respect Devin for the steadfast manner in which he pursues his academic, athletic and personal goals."

Brosseau, who was a 2019 Hockey Humanitarian Award nominee, steers the Clarkson Hockey team's community-service efforts. He spearheaded the Golden Knights' Team Impact with a local disabled teenager (integrating the young man as an honorary member of the team, involving him in all aspects of the hockey program – 2017‐present). He organized Clarkson Hockey's 2018 & 2019 Hockey Fights Cancer nights at Cheel Arena benefiting the American Cancer Society (raised close to $8,000 this year alone) and is Clarkson Hockey's Team Captain for Relay For Life, another event that raises funds for the American Cancer Society. Recently, the senior took part in a fundraiser for a local child in order to help pay for expenses associated with her illness.

Brosseau heads up Clarkson Hockey's Involvement with the Headway Foundation (concussion awareness, 2018‐19, 2019‐20) where he has involved every athletic team on campus as well as many local youth teams this year. He led Clarkson Hockey's efforts in the 2019 Snack Pack Program Drive to help provide nutritional snacks to students in the Potsdam Central School District. He volunteers at local elementary schools for visiting/reading and is active in the Town of Potsdam's Annual Spring Cleanup and has organized Clarkson Hockey's Salvation Army Bell Ringing.

Recognized as a role model and for his leadership skills, Brosseau is a three-time captain for the Knights. ECAC Hockey Student-Athlete of the Year in 2019, Brosseau leads by example on the ice and in the classroom.

The 2019 ECAC Hockey Championship Tournament MVP, Brosseau ranks among the top point producers in the NCAA this season and is a Clarkson nominee for the Hobey Baker Award. Brosseau is a member of Clarkson's Phalanx, inducted into the University's highest honorary society (leadership/service) as a sophomore, and is involved with many other business honor societies. A two-time AHCA Krampade Scholar All‐American and a three-time ECAC Hockey All-Academic selection, Brosseau completed his bachelor degree in Financial Information Analysis (FIA) in three years and is working toward his MBA during his senior season.

Each year Clarkson Men's Hockey Coach Casey Jones says to his incoming class of freshmen "Leave Clarkson and the community of Potsdam in a better place than when you first got here."

Brosseau has certainly answered that call and has created a new standard for all student-athletes.
