Clarkson Skates to Another Central NY Tie

With another late rally, 7th-ranked Clarkson picked up one more key ECAC Hockey point on the road skating to its second consecutive tie in Central NY, a 2-2 draw at Colgate in Hamilton on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights, who tied league-leader, 4th-ranked Cornell 1-1 in Ithaca on Friday, stand at 18-4-6 overall. With six games remaining in the regular season, Clarkson is in fourth place in the ECAC Hockey standings with a 9-3-4 league mark. The Green and Gold open a four-game home stand at Cheel Arena next weekend hosting Brown and Yale.

Colgate, bidding to move into a top-four conference position, held 1-0 and 2-1 leads over Clarkson, put could not put the Knights away.

The Raiders opened the scoring at 13:40 of the first period on a goal from in close by Rosy Demers.

Late in the period, the Knights, working on the power play tied the game. After a faceoff win at the side of the Colgate net, senior center Michaela Pejzlova (Pardubice, Czech Rep.) took a short pass from freshman linemate Gabrielle David (Drummondville, QUE) and slipped in a shot short side to tie the game at 18:13 on her seventh goal of the season. Junior right wing Elizabeth Giguere (Quebec City, QUE) also assisted for her team-high 49th point (25-24) of the season.

Colgate came right back to regain the lead with its own power-play marker as Eleri Mackay jammed in a shot at the top of the slot with 23 seconds left in the opening stanza.

The rivals battled through a scoreless middle frame and through most of the third period before Clarkson's captain tie the game 2-2. Senior defenseman Ella Shelton (Ingersoll, ONT) fired in a shot from the top of the slot that deflected off a Raider defender in front and into the back of the Colgate net at 16:11 for her 99th career point (23-76) on an unassisted goal.

Both teams put 25 shots on net, but the home team enjoyed the better of play in overtime with a 4-0 shot advantage.

Sophomore Marie-Pier Coulombe (Carignan, QUE) made 23 saves in the Clarkson net.

The Knights went 1-of-5 on the power play, while the Raiders were 1-of-3 with the man-advantage.
