While Division III fall sports are on pause at Clarkson University, the Athletic Department will look back on memorable moments of yesteryear. This will include only the five fall sports that have been suspended for 2020 (cross country, golf, men's soccer, women's soccer, volleyball). Check back on Tuesdays and Thursdays for these memorable moments.

Graduate student Abigail Sullivan took a winding path to become the Clarkson University Cross Country team's first female runner to compete at the NCAA Division III National Championships. A triathlete prior to coming to Clarkson, Sullivan had never ran competitively on a team and her main sport was swimming, and a broken foot delayed her ascendance with the Golden Knights' cross country squad by a year and then kept her off the team in her junior season as well.

Two years after the second break in her foot, Sullivan's perseverance paid off with an unexpected effort at the NCAA Atlantic Regionals.

Though Sullivan had certainly delivered some impressive results during the 2018 season, her 13th place finish on her home course at the Liberty League Championships hardly put her in a position to compete in the season's final weekend. However, at the regional hosted by Rowan University, Sullivan shocked the rest of the conference's top runners by placing seventh overall among 305 competitors, collapsing into the mud at the finish line ahead of all the other league's runners.

A week later, Sullivan ran at the NCAA Division III National Championships in Winneconne, WI, concluding the race with her best time of the year (22 minutes, 42.5 seconds), good enough for 121st place among 279 runners.
