1/22/2020 1:40:00 PM

The Clarkson University Women's Hockey team just signed its newest member. On January 18, the Golden Knights held a special Draft Day celebration at Cheel Arena and officially welcomed Kayla Braley to the Golden Knight family.

Through the help of the Team IMPACT program, Kayla, a 14-year-old native of Black River, NY, signed her Letter of Intent before a gathering of family, Clarkson staff and the members of the Golden Knights' Women's Hockey team.

Senior Caitrin Lonergan, junior Amanda Zeglen and freshman Marie Dedert joined Kayla and her mother Lori Doughty at the head table. Once Kayla had signed her Letter of Intent, she was presented with a Clarkson jersey (#27) by the Golden Knight players. Senior assistant captain Taylor Turnquist showed Kayla to her stall in the newly renovated women's hockey locker room and provided Kayla with team-issue apparel.

As a Clarkson team member, Kayla will attend Golden Knight practices, games, team dinners, events, and more – serving not only as their teammate, but as an inspiration.

Team IMPACT is a national nonprofit headquartered in Boston, MA that connects children facing serious or chronic illnesses with college athletic teams, forming life-long bonds and life-changing outcomes. Since 2011, Team IMPACT has matched more than 1,300 children with more than 500 colleges and universities in 47 states, reaching over 35,000 participating student-athletes. The child joins the athletic team and the student-athletes join the child's support team. Throughout the journey, the child gains strength, camaraderie and support while the student-athletes experience lessons of courage, resiliency and perspective they can't learn in a classroom.
