Trio of Clarkson Men's Soccer Player Gain All-Region Status

Award season is winding down, but the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team keeps getting noticed as three of its members earned United Soccer Coaches All-East recognition when the organization announced its selections on Monday.

Junior midfielder Mack Walton was picked as an All-East First-Team member, senior goalkeeper Ian Roeloffs was named an All-East Second-Team selection, and freshman defender Kyle Jackson was chosen for the All-East Third-Team.

The top scorer for the Golden Knights, Walton was chosen as a Liberty League All-Star for the third straight year, but this is the first time he was picked for the United Soccer Coaches All-Region team. Walton scored 11 points on four goals and three assists and also notched a team-high 40 shots, nearly twice the total of any other player on the squad.

Roeloffs, a Liberty League First-Team All-Star, made 18 starts between the posts, playing more than 1600 minutes in goal for the Golden Knights. Over the course of the season he recorded a 0.88 goals against average, an .824 save percentage, nine shutouts and nine victories. Among his nine shutouts, the second-most in program history, were four against teams ranked in the top 25 nationally, two victories against Ithaca and two 0-0 double overtime ties versus Rensselaer. Against conference opponents he had a 0.62 goals against average, .867 save percentage and six shutouts.

Jackson, who was chosen as a Liberty League Second-Team All-Star, contributed heavily to Clarkson's continued excellence on defense, but also began to make key contributions on offense late in the season. He scored three goals overall, including one in the regular-season finale against Union and then the game-winning goal versus Ithaca in the Liberty League's first round of playoffs. He played without a substitute in nine contests and was second on the team in minutes played with 1572, trailing only the goalkeeper.
