Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Clarkson Gains Victory at Brown With Moro's OT Game-Winner

Late game heroics from an unlikely source pushed Clarkson Men's Hockey to a crucial ECAC Hockey road win in overtime against Brown, 2-1 at Meehan Auditorium on Friday night.

Winners of six of the last seven games, the 8/9th-ranked Golden Knights stand at 9-3-1 overall and are 4-1-0 in ECAC action.  Clarkson, which is 3-0-1 in overtime games, plays against Yale in New Haven, CT on Saturday before breaking until December 7 with a league showdown against St. Lawrence at Cheel Arena.

The game-winning goal came when senior defenseman Greg Moro (Edmonton, ALB) forced a puck to center ice and angled off the Brown defenseman.  In doing so, Moro was able to spring junior Zach Tsekos (Montreal, QUE) in on a short breakaway.  That was halted, but Moro followed up the play to the crease and jammed a rebound into the net for his first goal of the season and the game-winner at 3:16 of the extra session. Junior Jack Jacome (Caledon, ONT) also assisted.

The Green and Gold controlled play through the opening 20 minutes and held a 9-6 shot advantage. The Knights got an early power-play opportunity and had god looks at the net, including a wide-open cage for senior Haralds Egle (Liepaja, Latvia).  However, Egle's shot was knocked down in front of the cage by Brown defenseman Zach Giutarri, stopping a sure goal and keeping the game scoreless.

It would stay that way until very late in the frame when sophomore Anthony Callin (Middletown, WI) took a loose puck at center, skated outside of the Bears defender and ripped a wrist shot past goalie Gavin Nieto.  The score at 19:23 of the period was Callin's second of the season and gave the Green and Gold a 1-0 edge after 20:00 of play.

In the second period both teams had a power play.  Clarkson could not convert, but Brown did at 19:07 with Giuttari connecting to tie the contest at one headed into the second intermission.

Brown carried a good bit of momentum in the third period and had two great opportunities in the last 1:30 of regulation to take a lead, but missed the net on cross-crease passes and the game headed to an extra-session tied 1-1.

The Green and Gold were able to create energy right from the opening faceoff in overtime.  Egle stole a pass at the Brown blueline and was able to work the puck to the net.  His two shots did not go in, but the Golden Knights used that as a boost. And Moro ended the Knights' fourth overtime outing of the season.

Brown had two shots in overtime, but Frank Marotte, Clarkson's grad transfer in nets, stopped them both.

Marotte stopped 20 of 21 Bears' shots while the Golden Knights poured 31 shots on to Nieto.

Both teams had three man-advantage opportunities with the Bears connecting for the lone power-play goal.
