AVCA2019NY

Women's Volleyball | 11/14/2019 1:33:00 PM

For the 11th straight year, the Clarkson University Volleyball team had a representative on the AVCA New York All-Region First-Team, with seniors Kate Isaksen and Rachel Reusch earning the honor and head coach Carol LaMarche gaining her second AVCA New York Region Coach of the Year honor in three seasons.

LaMarche was chosen as the AVCA New York Region Coach of the Year in 2017 as well. This is her second season guiding the Golden Knights to the top ranking in the New York Region. Clarkson has improved by eight wins from a year ago and won both the regular season and tournament titles for the Liberty League.

For the third time in as many years, Isaksen earned AVCA New York Region First-Team honors. Her 6.05 digs per set ranks in the top 15 in the country and she also adds 0.69 assists and 0.37 aces per set to go along with a .973 reception percentage. Isaksen has 3112 career digs, the eighth-highest figures in NCAA Division III history and the most among any player who has competed their career entirely in the 25-points per set era.

Reusch achieved her second AVCA New York Region First-Team honor, and she also gained New York Region Honorable Mention notice as a sophomore in 2017. Reusch, the Liberty League Player of the Year, enters the weekend averaging 3.50 kills per set, 0.63 blocks per set, 0.69 digs per set, and 0.29 aces per set with a .314 hitting percentage. Although she doesn't spend much time in the back row, she also has a .960 reception percentage on opposing teams' serves.

With their selections to an All-Region First-Team, both players advance to the All-American ballot and will at least earn AVCA All-American Honorable Mention honors. Isaksen will be the third Clarkson player to gain All-American honors on three occasions (Sara Artus 2009, 2010, 2011; Aishvina Arasu 2012, 2014, 2015). She will be looking to become the first Clarkson player to gain selection to the three named teams in program history. Former Clarkson setter Kirstie Shurie is the only other player named to the All-Americans teams twice, gaining selection to the AVCA All-American Second-Team in both 2014 and 2015.
