Clarkson Offense Struggles at William Smith

Geneva, NY – Struggling from beginning to end, the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team could never get on track offensively and ended up on the short end of a 71-33 decision against William Smith on Friday evening.

The Golden Knights fell to 5-9 overall and 2-6 in the Liberty League while the Herons oved to 9-6 overall and 5-3 in league contests. Clarkson faces RIT on Saturday in a game that was moved up to 12:00 noon.

Clarkson's first quarter would be its best as the team shot 4-for-17 from the floor and was within striking distance thanks to a pair of late 3-pointers. Down by seven, Rachel Marion hit a 3-pointer at the 2:07 mark and Molly Stewart buried another from the wing with only four seconds left in the period to get the Knights within three (14-11). However, the Knights missed their first nine shots of the second quarter and the Herons went 7-for-12 in the same stretch to create a 20-point gap (31-11). Stewart hit a layup at the 3:16 mark to end the 6:48 scoreless run, but it did not do much to keep Clarkson from getting doubled up at the half (34-17).

The Green and Gold suffered through another rough shooting stretch in the third quarter that put the game out of reach. Clarkson made two of its first six attempts from the field, but for the remainder of the period the Knights had their troubles. Only Raeanna Dunn's 3-pointer at the 4:26 mark kept Clarkson from missing 17 consecutive shots. In the fourth, the Knights lacked enough time for a comeback and their shooting was unable to get them there anyway, as the Herons expanded the margin by another 10 points in the final 10 minutes.

Clarkson shot a season-low 16.4% (12-for-73) while William Smith scored on 40.0% of its shots (30-for-75). The Herons also limited the Knights' second-chance opportunities, owning the glass 69 rebounds to Clarkson's 37 caroms.

Molly Stewart led the Knights with 11 points and also blocked two shots while Marion added nine points and eight boards. Freshman Maddie Pratt contributed a team-best 12 rebounds. For William Smith, Mia Morrison scored 15 and tossed in seven boards while Olivia Parisi recorded 11 points and six rebounds.
