RIT Shuts Out Golden Knights, 2-0

Rochester, NY – With two goals on two shots in the first half, RIT made the most of its chances in the opening 45 minutes and held on to defeat the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team 2-0 in Liberty League play Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights fell below .500 at 4-5-1 overall and remained winless in conference games at 0-3-0, while the Tigers improved to 5-3-0 and 1-2-0. Clarkson won't have much time back in Potsdam as the Knights hit the road for a non-league game against Plattsburgh State on Monday night.

The Tigers got on the scoreboard in the first five minutes as a service pass from Jessica Jones found the head of Mia White at 4:38 to put RIT up 1-0 early. Clarkson responded with three shots in the next 15 minutes, but two were stopped by RIT goalkeeper Ingrida Ivaska while the other sailed high. After skating through that stretch of offense from the Knights, RIT responded with an insurance goal at the 27-minute mark when Abbey Saia tallied off assists from Monique Polanco and White. The Knights had one more chance in the final minute, but again Clarkson was denied by Ivaska.

Clarkson had four more chances to get on the scoreboard in the second half, but three shots never found the mark and a fourth by Alicia Bushey hit the crossbar at 85:34. That would be the last scoring chance for the Knights in the contest.

The Green and Gold finished with an 8-6 edge in shots and the two teams were tied in corner kick chances with two apiece. Clarkson goalkeeper Elyse Green made two saves in the second half. Ivaska stopped three shots in the first half for RIT and Alyssa Salls played the final 45 minutes for the Tigers, but didn't need to make a save.
