Junior John Furcick of the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team was selected to the Google Cloud/CoSIDA Academic All-American team when the organization made its official announcement on Tuesday afternoon.

Furcick, who was chosen as a Second-Team Academic All-American, becomes just the fifth player in program history to receive the honor and the first since 1999-2000 when Michael Secko was picked for the second year in a row. Matt Nachman (1998-99), Matt St. Onge (1995-96) and Oliver Koehler (1993-94, 1994-95) are previous selections from the men's soccer program. Furcick was the only player from the Liberty League to be picked on any of the three teams and one of just five players from the New York Region to be picked for one of the 33 overall slots.

Through five semester, Furcick still maintains a flawless 4.00 grade-point average with a double-major in Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering. Furcick was one of four players to start all 17 games this year for the Golden Knights, ranking fourth on the team in minutes played with 1,419. He scored one goal and was a key part of the Clarkson defense, which allowed a conference-low 10 goals in 2018.

Furcick's selection also marks the 11th straight year that at least one Clarkson student-athlete has earned CoSIDA Academic All-American honors. In that time, nine different sports have been represented by the Golden Knights on the assorted CoSIDA Academic All-American teams.
