CU Women's Basketball Preview - vs. Union/Ithaca (1/12-13/2018)

This Friday will mark the first of three straight home weekends for the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team as the Golden Knights will look to get on a roll when they face Union and Ithaca this weekend.

Live Stats/Live Video

The Series vs. Union: Friday night will mark Clarkson's 51st all-time matchup against the Dutchwomen, and although the Knights came away with a win just 10 times in the first 50 meetings, the two teams have split the season series for three consecutive campaigns, with each team winning at home.

The Series vs. Ithaca: The two teams have met just 19 times overall, with Clarkson owning a 7-12 mark against the Bombers. This will be the first matchup between the two squads since the 1999-00 season when Clarkson came away with a 66-59 win.

Key Stats for Clarkson (6-6, 1-4 Liberty League): Two Clarkson seniors are approaching milestones that they should have no trouble reaching this weekend. Senior guard Devin Sorell needs just seven more points to become the fifth Clarkson player to reach 1300 career points. Backcourt mate Madison Shea is in need of just one more assist to make it to 300 in her career, which will make her just the fifth member of that group in the 40-plus year history of Clarkson Women's Basketball.

Key Stats for Union (4-6, 1-3 Liberty League): The Dutchwomen have struggled on offense in 2017-18, topping 50 points on only two occasions in 10 games so far. Union's offense ranks ninth in the league at 47.8 points per game and is also ninth in field goal percentage (33.6%). Union has played well on defense, however, leading the conference with 5.2 blocks per game and allowing 56.6 ppg. Jenni Barra leads the team in scoring at 12.0 points per game and is certainly capable of a big game, as her 29 points against Utica can attest. Nicole Conley leads the conference in blocked shots at 2.6 bpg.

Key Stats for Ithaca (9-3, 4-1 Liberty League): The Bombers lead the Liberty League in several categories on both sides of the ball, ranking first in points per game (74.9 ppg), field goal percentage (43.0%) and assists per game (16.8 apg) while also placing first in steals (14.4 spg), turnovers forced per game (24.9 tpg) and turnover margin (+9.00 tpg). Cassidy O'Malley leads the team in scoring at 17.8 points per game and is shooting a league best 49.4% from the floor. Julie Yacovoni would be leading the conference in field goal percentage at 58.6% if she had enough makes to qualify, but she is still averaging 11.0 points per contest.
