CU Volleyball Preview - at New York Regional Challenge (10/27-28)

Ranked third in the region, the Clarkson University Volleyball team will look to add to its resume this weekend when the Golden Knights travel to Central New York to take on Buffalo State, Cortland State and the University of Rochester at the New York Regional Challenge, hosted by Rochester.

The Series vs. Buffalo State (8:00 pm, Friday): Clarkson is 11-4 all-time against Buff State, having won nine straight meetings since the start of the 2004 season.

The Series vs. Cortland State (10:30 am, Saturday): The Golden Knights are just 4-8 all-time against the Red Dragons, but Clarkson has won four consecutive matches in the series, starting with the second meeting during the 2012 season.

The Series vs. Rochester (12:30, Saturday): The only team that the Golden Knights faced last year among the three teams this weekend, the Knights won in four sets last year at Alumni Gymnasium. Clarkson has won two straight against the Yellowjackets, but trails in the series with three wins in eight matches.

Key Stats for Clarkson (16-7): Sophomore Kate Isaksen is having an impressive season, averaging 6.63 digs per set. She could go nine straight sets without a single dig and still set a single-season record at Clarkson for digs per set, a standard she created in her first collegiate season. Clarkson ranks in the top 10 nationally in digs per set (19.48) and is also excellent on serve receive, having been aced only 102 times in 84 sets.

Key Stats for Buffalo State (6-20): The Bengals enjoyed three straight seasons (2012-2014) with at least 25 wins, but the team has fallen hard in the last three seasons with a combined 24 victories in that time.  The Bengals are hitting .098 as a team and only Lauren Hansen is averaging more than 1.75 kills per set, producing 3.44 per set.

Key Stats for Cortland State (12-14): Seniors Courtney and Nicole Silberer combine for 4.90 kills per set, but it is Gabby Amelio who is producing the most impressive numbers for the Red Dragons. The setter is averaging 8.04 assists, 2.49 digs and 0.63 aces per set.

Key Stats for Rochester (16-10): The Yellowjackets are running with two setters, allowing Beth Ghyzel to contribute in a variety of ways. Ghyzel averages 3.70 assists per set, but she also is recording 1.70 kills per set to go along with a team best 35 aces.
