Clarkson Women's Basketball Preview - at Plattsburgh State Tournament (11/20-21)

Off to a 2-0 start against a pair of SUNYAC schools, the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team will be further challenged this weekend at the Plattsburgh State Invitational, facing top-10 ranked Bowdoin on Friday night.

The Golden Knights will take on the Polar Bears at 8:00 pm on Friday and will then face either Plattsburgh State or Johnson State on Saturday afternoon.

Clarkson has produced a stellar defensive effort so far in two games, allowing just 38.5 points per game, forcing 52 turnovers in the two contests, and holding opponents to 25.5% shooting from the floor. Offensively, the Golden Knights have been led by Ashley Loggins, who is shooting 57.1% from the field and averaging 19.0 points per game. The senior forward has also been a key on the boards and on defense, with averages of 11.5 rebounds and 5.0 steals per game. Junior guard Stephanie Grobe is kicking in 10.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 4.5 steals per game for a well-rounded effort, and sophomore guard Madison Shea has also provided similar numbers with 8.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per contest.

Clarkson's first opponent of the weekend is Bowdoin College, ranked seventh in the d3hoops.com pre-season poll. The Polar Bears went 25-5 in 2014-15, reaching the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Senior Shannon Brady averaged 14.3 points per game last year, shooting 51.2% from the floor, and also kicked in 6.5 boards per contest. Junior Marle Curle had solid all-around numbers with 9.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game while sophomore Kate Kerrigan had an impressive first year at the college level with 7.0 points. 5.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.2 steals per game.

While the Polar Bears have yet to play a game this year, the Golden Knights' second opponent of the weekend will have some game experience this fall. Plattsburgh won its first game of the year, enjoying a 50-29 rebounding advantage. Jax Miller produced 18 points and seven rebounds, Devona Paul had 14 points and seven boards, and Stephanie Linder recorded 13 points and nine caroms in the opener. Johnson State has also competed in two contests thus far, coming away with a split. Ashley Goddard is averaging 16.0 points and 6.0 rebounds with 66.7% shooting and Kasey DeGreena isn't far behind with a 52.6% success rate on field goal tries for 11.5 points per game. Domonique Carter-Stanley has also contributed 10.0 points, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game so far.
