CU Men's Soccer Preview - at RIT (10/10)

With the conference season nearly halfway completed, the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team will try to move up in the standings when they travel to RIT for a 2:00 pm game on Saturday afternoon.

Clarkson is 4-6-1 overall this season and 1-2-0 in the Liberty League. Clarkson is currently tied for fifth in the conference with three points and trails second placed Vassar and St. Lawrence by three points.

The Golden Knights played two conference opponents on the road last weekend and came away with a 1-1 record. First, Clarkson picked up its first conference victory when the Green and Gold defeated Bard 3-2. Clarkson went ahead 1-0 early on a Zach Godin penalty kick, but consecutive goals by the Raptors put Clarkson in a 2-1 hole.
Clarkson clawed back though, with Maximilian Leetz tying the game off a pass from Paul Ancin and then Kevin Calnan scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with Drew Lewis picking up the assist.

On Saturday, Clarkson matched up against Vassar. Clarkson went ahead for the second straight day on a Godin penalty kick, but the Brewers responded with three straight scores to wrap up a 3-1 win.

Tucker Wilcox has seven goals and two assists this season for a total of 16 points. That puts him in a tie for fourth-most in the Liberty League as well as having the fourth-most goals. Calnan's four helpers place him in a tie for fourth in the conference. Godin is tied for third in game-winning goals. Michael King is tied for third in saves with 30 stops so far.

RIT comes into the weekend with a 4-7-0 overall record and a 1-2-0 Liberty League record. The Tigers dropped consecutive 2-0 decisions in their first two conference games before defeating RPI 1-0 in overtime for their first conference win. Gene Sicoli is the leading scorer for RIT with seven goals and four assists. His 18 points put him in a tie for second in the Liberty League and his seven goals tie him with Wilcox for fourth. Clarkson holds an all-time record of 20-22-3 against RIT. The Golden Knights have struggled recently in the series though, losing four in a row with their last win coming in 2010.
