Golden Knights Bounce Back With 3-2 Win at Princeton

After suffering their first loss in seven games, the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team bounced back and defeated Princeton 3-2 in New Jersey on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights stand at 10-4-1 record overall and are 5-1-1 in ECAC Hockey play.

"I thought today was a pretty solid effort for a full 60 minutes by the team," stated Clarkson Head Coach Matt Desrosiers. "We knew Princeton was going to be a tough team to play against as they have been able to pull out some wins in tight games, so trying not to take very many shifts off was an area of focus coming into the game. We also did a better job creating chances around Princeton's net which was something we came into the game wanting to improve upon from yesterday. These were two big points to help keep us in the mix at the top of the league standings."

After being shut out 1-0 on Friday against Quinnipiac, Clarkson would score just 10:18 into the game when freshman Amanda Titus (Stittsville, ONT) tallied her second goal of the season. Junior defensemen Renata Fast (Burlington, ONT) and Erin Ambrose (Keswick, ONT) were credited with assists. Fast now has a point in five of the six games this season while Ambrose notches her first point since returning from representing Canada at the Four Nations Cup.

Princeton (6-3-1, 4-2) would tie the game seven minutes later when Kelsey Koezer scored for the Tigers.

Sophomore Genevieve Bannon (Candiac, QUE) would give the Golden Knights the lead again when she scored a short-handed goal at 7:50 in the second period. But Princeton would again answer less than two minutes later when Brianna Leahy connected on the power-play.

Just four minutes into the third period, junior captain Shannon MacAuley (Mt. Herbert, PEI) scored the eventual game-winning goal. Titus and junior Cayley Mercer (Exeter, ONT) were credited with assists on the goal. MacAuley now has a team leading twelve goals this season, just one less than her career high in a season.

Clarkson held a 35-17 advantage on shots. Freshman Shea Tiley (Owen Sound, ONT) stopped 15 shots for the Green and Gold, while her Princeton counterpart Kimberly Newell stopped 32 shots.

The Knights struggled with the man-advantage, going 0-of-6 on the power play, while the Tigers were 1-of-3.

Clarkson will travel to the Nutmeg Classic next and will play the University of Connecticut in the opening round on November 28.
