Karpowich Stands Tall in 1-1 Tie at Quinnipiac

Paul Karpowich made 43 saves in the 1-1 tie at Quinnipiac

Senior goaltender Paul Karpowich (Thunder Bay, ONT) has been strong all season long in the Golden Knights crease, but on Friday night in Hamden, CT he played one of his best games ever for the Green and Gold with a 43-save effort in the Clarkson University Hockey team’s 1-1 tie against Quinnipiac.

The Bobcats outshot the Knights 44-11, but Karpowich posted 12 first-period saves, eight in the second, 21 in the third and two more stops in the five-minute overtime frame to help Clarkson gain one point in league play on the road.

With the tie, Clarkson’s record stands at 6-2-3 overall and 1-1-1 in ECAC Hockey. The Knights play at Princeton in a 4:00 p.m. game on Saturday afternoon.

The only shot all night to get past Karpowich was a power-play tally by Jeremy Langlois at 15:57 of the first period.

The Knights, who were playing without two of their top three leading scorers, senior Louke Oakley (Whitby, ONT) and sophomore Ben Sexton (Kanata, ONT) who were out with injuries, tied the game early in the second.

Junior Adam Pawlick (Utica, NY) finished off assists from sophomore defenseman Alex Boak (Norwood, NY) and senior Nick Tremblay (Candiac, QUE) for his first goal of the season at 4:25 of the middle frame to complete the scoring in the contest.

The Bobcats had the better of the play over the final 25 minutes, outshooting the Knights 21-2 in the third period and 2-0 in overtime, but Karpowich turned aside every attempt by the home team as Quinnipiac suffered its first blemish (4-0-1) at TD Bank Sports Center this season.
