Knights Win Battle of Turnovers and Take 20-Point Win Against Westfield State

Potsdam, NY - Committing only 11 fouls and just 11 turnovers in Monday's contest, the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team limited its miscues and cruised to a 67-47 victory over Westfield State in the second round of the Williams Tournament.

The Golden Knights improved to 7-3 on the season and have just one game remaining before they begin the arduous task of conference play in 11 days. Westfield State dropped to 4-8 on the season.

The Owls jumped out to an early lead, and the two teams traded the early advantage in the opening minutes, but the Golden Knights asserted themselves in the final seven minutes of the first half to take a seven-point lead. The second half was an entirely different story as the Knights dominated play. After a basket cut the Clarkson's advantage to eight points early on, Clarkson ran away with the game, extending its lead to as many as 26 points late in the game before finally settling at 20 points as the final margin.

Junior guard Felix Llanos (Queens, NY) led the Knights with 14 points, making four of his eight attempts from beyond the 3-point arc. Senior forward Jonathan Hood (Cortlandt Manor, NY) produced a solid all-around game with 12 points, seven rebounds, six steals and four assists. Freshman Nate Uline (Gansevoort, NY) added nine points on 4-for-6 shooting in 20 minutes off the bench. Both Hood and senior guard Rey Jefferson (Budd Lake, NJ) were also named as Liberty League Performers of the Week on Monday for their performance over the past seven days.

For the Owls, Matt Devine had 19 points and eight rebounds, but committed six turnovers, while Marcellus Lee contributed 14 points and seven rebounds. Westfield's starters had 40 of the 47 points for the Owls, who also committed 24 turnovers overall.
