Dick Murphy-Dalton Guyette Memorial Youth Project
LIL KNIGHTS and CLARKSON HOCKEY TEAM-UP to SUPPORT THE DICK MURPHY/DALTON GUYETTE MEMORIAL YOUTH PROJECT
Title IX and National Girls and Women in Sports Day - February 7
The Lil Knights Club will be partnering with the Clarkson University Women’s and Men’s Hockey teams to help raise donations for the Dick Murphy/Dalton Guyette Memorial Youth Project at upcoming Golden Knight games at Cheel Arena in February.
The Dick Murphy/Dalton Guyette Memorial Youth Project raises funds and awards scholarships for deserving children to participate in various activities throughout the North Country community.
The Lil Knights will be collecting donations for the project in the Cheel Campus Center lobby during the Clarkson Women’s Hockey game vs. Quinnipiac on Friday, February 7, and at the Golden Knights’ Men’s game against Dartmouth on Saturday, February 15.
Since its inception 10 years ago, The Dick Murphy/Dalton Guyette Memorial Youth Project has grown by leaps and bounds. Originating in Potsdam, the Project now has programs in Canton, Colton, Parishville, Norwood and Madrid, and hopes to move throughout St. Lawrence County. The Project has awarded scholarships to an average of 140-150 children each year. In addition to sports scholarships, the Project has also awarded scholarships for Girls Scouts, AP Classes, art lessons, academic activities and musical pursuits along with providing transportation.
The Dick Murphy-Dalton Guyette Memorial Youth Project provides children the opportunities for happier, healthier, more well-rounded productive lives and to be valuable members of our North Country Community.

Come to the Clarkson Women’s Hockey Game February 7 and help celebrate Title IX and National Girls and Women in Sports Day. This year AAUW-St. Lawrence County is collaborating with Section 10 Athletics through the BOCES office in Canton to sponsor a Title IX Art Poster Contest. This poster contest, for students in grades 7-12, encourages young people in the north country to express their visions of what “Title IX” is and how it has impacted their lives in their school community.
Thanks to the generous donations by AAUW and local colleges the contest prizes are both educational and fun. Contestants can win a grand prize of a $100 savings bond or gift certificates from the area college books stores. Entries are due on Friday.
The contest rules and entry forms have been distributed to all the public schools in Section 10. The submitted artwork will be on display for judging and enjoyment on Feb. 7 prior to the 7 p.m. Clarkson women’s hockey game vs. Quinnipiac University at Cheel Arena. Parents, teachers, friends, family and sports lovers are encouraged to attend the poster presentation and the awards ceremony that evening.
To celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day, the first 50 girls, grades 6-8, wearing a sports jersey can get into the game free. Girls in grades 9-12 will be offered a reduced rate ticket of $2. Poster contestants will receive a free ticket to the game.
