Knights Post 16 Aces in Sweep of Potsdam

Potsdam, NY – Plenty of precision from the service line, in the form of 16 aces, allowed the Clarkson University Volleyball team to pick up its seventh win of the season as the Golden Knights swept their crosstown rivals SUNY Potsdam 25-15, 25-21, 25-14 on Friday evening at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights improved to 7-8 on the year while the Bears dropped to 7-7. Clarkson returns to conference action tomorrow when the team hosts Vassar College.

Clarkson's aces came in bunches, most frequently in the first set. With the teams tied at 10-10, the Golden Knights regained control with a kill by Marin Hangliter. Olivia Baxter then followed with four consecutive aces to put the Green and Gold up by five. A few points later, Marin Hangliter had back-to-back aces to push the margin to seven, and near the end of the set, Jordyn Leader also recorded consecutive aces to put the set on the cusp of completion.

Potsdam hung around longer in the second set, holding the lead as late as 15-14. However, the Knights tied the set on a kill by Leader and then picked up the advantage on an attack error by the Bears. Hangliter then delivered consecutive aces again to create a small gap, and the Knights never relinquished that lead for the rest of the game.

In the third, the Knights turned a 5-2 deficit into a lead with five straight points. Another run of six straight points had Clarkson doubling up Potsdam 13-6 and it was never close again, with the Green and Gold finishing with another double-digit margin win.

Marin Hangliter produced 14 kills and six aces, Olivia Baxter had 16 digs and six aces, and Jordyn Leader added three aces and four block assists to headline Clarkson's service game. Conley Burns added 13 kills and Ashley Currier registered 25 assists, eight digs, and three block assists.

For Potsdam, Ashlee Hagerman had a double-double on 10 kills and 10 digs. Noelle Redeye recorded four block assists, Rachel Madore had 10 digs, and Sophia Layer notched 12 assists.
