High Scoring First Quarter Lifts Clarkson Over Bard, 23-5

Annandale-on-Hudson, NY – Senior Julia Lavarnway had six points in the first quarter as the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team raced out to a huge lead in the opening quarter and cruised to a 23-5 victory over Bard College on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights moved to 8-8 on the year and 3-6 in conference games, while Bard fell to 1-12 and remained winless in the Liberty League. Clarkson closes out the regular-season at home next weekend against Rensselaer.

Clarkson outshot Bard 20-3 in the first 15 minutes of the game and found the back of the net 10 times en route to a double-digit lead by the early moments of the second quarter. Julia Lavarnway assisted on four goals and scored two more herself in the first period, and Mia Petrone notched her 100th career point with her first goal of the game.

Although the Golden Knights scored six more in the second quarter and another seven in the second half, the Green and Gold pulled things back a bit against the Raptors. Following the opening bombardment of 20 shots, the Knights took only 19 shots for the final 45 minutes of the contest.

Nine players recorded multi-point games, and eight had multi-goal contests. Brooklynne Perrigo led the team with four goals on just five shots, and Lavarnway finished with eight points on two goals and six assists. Lauren Shanahan (2-1-3), Mia Petrone (3-0-3), and Chrissy Benedict (2-1-3) each had three points, while Hailey Millington, Merissa McCorry, and Sydney Nakas each scored two goals. Lauren Meyers also had a goal and an assist.

For Bard, Sarah Child had three points on two goals and an assist and Maggy Peyton scored twice with five draw controls.

Overall, Clarkson had a 39-13 edge in shots (34-9 in shots on goal), a 16-4 lead in groundballs, and a 16-14 advantage in draw controls. Jennaca McGill made four saves in the crease for the Knights, and Lexie Blackburn denied 11 shots in goal for Bard.
