Falck Scores Off PK to Give Knights 1-0 Win Over Keene State

Potsdam, NY – In a game that saw a great deal of possession in the midfield and only a handful of legitimate scoring chances, it was the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team that would come away with a victory when Simon Falck scored off a penalty kick in the 48th minutes to lift the Golden Knights to a 1-0 win past Keene State on Saturday afternoon at Hantz Field.

The Golden Knights improved to 2-0 with their second consecutive shutout, while Keene State fell to 0-2. Clarkson takes to the road for a tournament next Saturday and Sunday when the Knights will head to Virginia to face Christopher Newport University and Virginia Wesleyan University.

Although there was plenty of action in the opening 45 minutes, not much of it was in the way of shots on the frame. In fact, neither team put a shot on goal in the first half, with Clarkson heading into the break with a 2-1 edge in shots thanks to attempts from Bobby Guilfoil in the seventh minute and another shot by Ben Choi in the 41st minute.

The score would change abruptly in the first few ticks of the second half, however, as Logan Drake was pulled down on the right side of the penalty area while going for goal. Simon Falck ended up taking the penalty kick chance, and he hit a hard shot to the right corner to put the Knights up 1-0 in the 48th minute.

Although the Knights would hold a significant advantage in shots in the second half, not many were on goal. Clarkson did have 10 chances overall, with the best attempt likely coming off a shot from Falck that went off the crossbar. The Knights put two on goal, but both were denied by the Owls' Regan Racicot. Keene State also had two shots on goal in the second half, and both came on the same possession with Josh Morelli coming out to deflect an attempt and then sprawling for another stop immediately after.

Clarkson finished the game with a 12-3 edge in shots, but just 3-2 in shots on goal. The Knights also held a 4-0 edge in corner kick opportunities. Both Morelli and Racicot made two saves for their respective teams.
