Poughkeepsie, NY – A goal in the waning moments of the second half sent the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team to a tough loss against one of the conference leaders as Vassar College eked out a 1-0 Liberty League win on Friday afternoon.

The Golden Knights fell to 3-7-2 overall and 1-4-0 in the conference, while Vassar improved to 10-2-1 and 3-1-1. Clarkson will look to get back on track on Saturday afternoon when the Green and Gold visit Bard College.

Clarkson edged Vassar 13-12 in shots and held a small 5-3 lead in shots on goal, while Vassar had six corner kicks to the Knights' four.

The Knights opened with a hard push against the Vassar defense, producing four shots in the first nine minutes with three going on the Vassar frame. The second half also saw the Knights with several opportunities near the midway point of the latter period as both Zachary Appel and Joey White were denied just 30 seconds apart by Vassar keeper Eric Wnorowski. Three minutes later, Josh Conklin just missed when he hit the crossbar, but that was the last chance the Knights would have with an attempt on the goal.

Vassar took advantage with a goal at 88:00 as Duncan Keker converted on a pass from Kyle Lopes. Clarkson would go without a chance on the Vassar goal for the final two minutes of the half.

Bryan Benitez made two saves for the Knights and Eric Wnorowski stopped five shots for Vassar.
