Three times in the past five years the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team opened its season with a pair of victories, but the Golden Knights are seeking a start similar to last year when the team began with five straight wins. The Green and Gold have a tough task ahead as they travel to face Brockport and Geneseo this weekend.

The Series: Clarkson has won just once in five meetings against Brockport, beating the Golden Eagles back in 2016, but the rest of the matchup occurred prior to the birth of even Clarkson's athletic directors, taking place from 1954-1957. Against Geneseo, Clarkson is 3-9-1, with the last victory for the Green and Gold coming in 2010 (4-3). Geneseo went 5-0-1 against the Golden Knights from 2011-2016.

Key Stats for Clarkson (2-0-0): Senior Aidan Subra recorded two goals in the win over Otterbein on Friday, but was held scoreless against Springfield on Saturday, which ended a six-game scoring streak for Subra dating back to 2018. The team's current leading scorer over the past four years, Subra has produced eight goals and nine assists for 25 points, despite missing two-thirds of 2018. Classmate Erick Naula and freshman Devon Bahr account for Clarkson's other two goals in 2019. Ian Roeloffs and Noah Bell each earned a start last weekend and recorded three saves apiece, with Bell picking up a shutout.

Key Stats for Brockport (1-1-0): The Golden Eagles won the SUNYAC Tournament last year and also picked up a first round win in the NCAA Tournament, ending the season with 16 victories. That campaign helped them receive national attention, as they opened this season earning votes and gaining a spot just outside the top 25 poll. Sophomore Matthew Stefaniw scored 12 goals last season and is off to a strong start in 2019, tallying a goal in each game with an assist in the second contest for a team-best five points. Senior Jeff Hibbard, who produced 22 points on eight goals and six assists a year ago, also has four points with a goal and two assists so far.

Key Stats for Geneseo (2-0-0): Unlike Brockport, which has scored seven goals in two games so far, the Knights have enjoyed early success with a more traditional approach of defense, allowing just a single goal in their two one-goal victories against St. John Fisher (1-0) and Penn State-Berks (2-1). Senior Bryan Wager led the team with seven points a year ago on three goals and an assist, and is close to halfway to that production in 2019 with a goal and an assist. Sophomore Ariel Samoohy is scoreless so far, but he recorded three goals a year ago and is one of the team's top returning scorers. Freshman Will Pace has starred in goal thus far for Geneseo with a 0.50 goals against average and .800 save percentage in two starts.
