Knights Win by Double Figures Over Potsdam

Potsdam, NY – A fast start of six goals in 10 minutes put the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team up early on Thursday and the Golden Knights cruised to an 18-5 victory over SUNY Potsdam at Hantz Turf Field.

The Golden Knights evented their record at 1-1 on the year and host Utica College on Saturday afternoon. Potsdam fell to 1-2.

Clarkson dominated all facets of the game on Thursday, holding a 39-11 edge in shots (33-9 shots on goal) and 34-17 in groundballs. The Golden Knights' defense also forced 28 turnovers and kept the Bears from any easy clears.

Katie Sergeant scored three times in the first eight and a half minutes to help the Knights build an early lead which they would never relinquish. After Potsdam scored at 25:11 on a man-up goal to make the score 3-2, Clarkson scored the final six goals of the half and produced 11 straight overall, holding Potsdam scoreless for a stretch of more than 38 minutes.

Freshman Sydney Roderick produced five points with two goals and three assists and also added in three caused turnovers. Sergeant finished with four goals and Jaid Baytos added three scores. Abby Collins chipped in three points (2-1-3) to go along with two caused turnovers and three draws. Aubrey Borgesi and Grace Hagberg also scored two goals, with the latter scooping up a team-high five groundballs. Stephanie Scaia also caused two turnovers and picked up three groundballs while Emma Andrews recorded three groundballs with two draws and two caused turnovers.

For Potsdam, Cayla O'Connor scored three points (2-1-3) while Alexa Ferrer, Lane Perl and Miranda Kolb each scoring a goal. Katie Longamore was busy in the Bears' crease, making 15 saves on 33 shots on goal.
