Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | October 24, 2017

Late Goal by Bears Sends Knights to 1-0 Defeat

Potsdam, NY – A redirection in front late in the second half reversed a fairly dominant performance by the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team as the Golden Knights dropped a 1-0 decision to SUNY Potsdam on Tuesday evening at Hantz Turf Field.

The Golden Knights saw their record evened at 7-7-2 in advance of their final regular-season game on Saturday against Rensselaer. SUNY Potsdam closed out its season at 7-10.

In the 75th minute, Potsdam finally broke the scoreless tie between the two teams as Ritchie Hetherington was able to redirect a deflection in front from near the six.

Following the Potsdam goal, Clarkson was busy trying to get the equalizer, firing off five shots in the last eight minutes of the game, as well as a corner kick chance. Three of those shots got blocked by the Bears' defense, a Henry Gomez attempt was saved and a Jon Jones shot sailed high.

Clarkson finished with an 18-8 edge in shots and a 7-3 lead in corner kicks. Riley McDonald made a single save for Clarkson, while Keagen Briggs was called upon to make five stops.
