Clarkson Men's Hockey Names Team Leaders

The Clarkson University Hockey program has announced its team leaders for the 2016-17 Golden Knights. Seniors James de Haas and Perry D'Arrisso along with juniors Brett Gervais and Nic Pierog will serve as the Green and Gold's leaders for the 95th season of Clarkson Hockey.

"We are excited to have this group serve as our team leaders this season," stated Clarkson Head Coach Casey Jones. "Each has earned the privilege and responsibility of serving as a team leader because of their commitment to excellence both on the ice and in the classroom. They complement each other well and will each bring a different dynamic to our leadership group."

de Haas was an ECAC Hockey Third-Team All-Star on defense last season and was Clarkson's leading scorer from the blueline with five goals and 17 points. He was the only Knight to skate in all 38 games. The Mississauga, ONT native was a force in postseason play last March, scoring both game-winners in 3-2 overtime victories against Princeton (3/4-5) in conference first-round series action. de Haas is a 2012 NHL Draft choice of the Detroit Red Wings.

D'Arrisso, a forward from Mississauga, ONT, was honored with Clarkson's Mike Morrison Dedication Award for teamwork, hustle and dedication in 2015-16. He doubled his combined point production from his first two seasons with six goals and five assists skating in 34 games last year.

An all-around center, Gervais did it all in his second season at Clarkson. He was the Knights' fifth-leading scorer up front with 17 points on five goals and 12 assists and posted a +7 plus/minus rating. The Corona, CA native took the most face offs for Clarkson (343-322), winning 51.6% of his draws and recorded 18 block shots.

Pierog, a physical forward from Georgetown, ONT, played in 37 games, scoring five goals to go along with eight assists and led the team in penalty minutes (17/45). He tallied the Knights' goal in 1-1 tie at Number 1 ranked Quinnipiac (11/20).

Clarkson officially opens the 2016-17 campaign on October 7 hosting the University of Vermont at Cheel Arena.
