CU Men's Soccer Preview - at Potsdam State (10/25)

Zach Golden has started all but one game this season.
In the final week of the regular season, the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team will be looking to finish with its best record since the 2001 season. First up for Clarkson will be local rival Potsdam with the two teams clashing on Tuesday night.

Clarkson holds a 6-6-2 overall record and a 2-4-1 Liberty League record. The Golden Knights need one more win to ensure at least a .500 record at the end of the season as well as tying the highest win total of head coach Chris Taylor's tenure which came in 2014. Two wins would also give Clarkson its highest win total since going 10-5-1 in the 2001 season. A win or tie against St. Lawrence would give Clarkson its best conference record since that same 2001 season.

Throughout the season, Clarkson's defense has been its strongest unit. Michael King leads the way and is near the top of many Liberty League leaderboards. King is first in shutouts with seven and is second in save percentage (.865), saves (64), and goals against average (.686). King's numbers are among the best single-season totals in Clarkson history. His save percentage and goals against average are the best since Scott Stuart had marks of 0.87 and 0.69 respectively in the 2009 season.

Potsdam enters the game with an 8-6-2 overall record and a 3-5-1 record in the SUNYAC.  It will be the final game of the season for the Bears who were eliminated from postseason contention after a 3-2 overtime loss to Brockport. Clarkson will be the fourth Liberty League team Potsdam has faced this season, with Potsdam knocking off RIT and RPI while losing to Hobart. Clarkson has an all-time record of 37-8-3 against Potsdam and is on a two game winning streak against the Bears. In the 2015 edition of the local rivalry, Clarkson earned a 3-0 win. Jon Jones had a goal in the victory and Drew Lewis added an assist.

The two teams will meet at 7:00 pm on Tuesday night on Potsdam's Turf Field.
