Shannon Desrosiers Finished in 3rd place in Calgary Stampede Road Race Half Marathon

Staying competitive has always been something Clarkson University’s Women’s Hockey Co-Head Coach Shannon Desrosiers has thrived on.  Just 11 weeks after giving birth to her first child, coach Desrosiers finished in third place amongst all females at the Calgary Stampede Road Race Half Marathon.  The 13.1 mile race took place July 8 in the heart of the city during the 100th Anniversary of the Calgary Stampede.  Desrosiers finished with a time of 1:26:31 and placed 16th out of 585 total runners.

“It has been about a year and a half since my last race so it was nice to get the competitive juices flowing again.  I really enjoy being part of all the excitement and encouragement that is customary at these events.  The mood around the Stampede is fantastic which made for a great atmosphere for the race.”

Desrosiers’ last competition was at the grueling 2010 World Ironman Championships in Kona Hawaii.  She qualified for the Ironman Championships by finishing as the top amateur female competitor and ninth female overall at the 2010 Ironman Canada which was held in Penticton British Columbia.  Desrosiers joined an elite group at Ironman Canada by crossing the finish line ahead of many professional athletes and finishing the grueling race in less than 10 hours.
