The 2004-05 Clarkson University hockey team was honored at the annual Knight Club Booster Awards Banquet on Sunday, April 3. Family, friends, and booster club members paid tribute to the Golden Knights and honored the five seniors in the Class of 2005.

Six awards were announced at the banquet. Headlining the list of recipients was 5-11, 182-pound, senior forward Jay Latulippe, who was named the Bill Harrison Clarkson Most Valuable Player in honor of the successful Clarkson coach of the late 1940s and 1950s. The Saratoga Springs, New York native led Clarkson in scoring with team-highs of 16 goals and 20 assists for 36 points. He was the Knights’ top scorer on the power play with 10 of the Green and Gold’s 33 man-advantage markers. Latulippe, who served as an alternate captain this winter, became the 72nd Golden Knight to reach 100 career points by finishing his collegiate career with 103 points on 45 goals and 58 assists through 146 games. He was selected once as the ECACHL Player of the Week (2/7) and named to the league’s weekly Honor Roll five times (10/11, 11/15, 12/13, 2/14, 2/28).
Senior Ken Scuderi was honored with the Mike Morrison Coaches’ Award for teamwork, hustle and dedication. The award was named in honor of the former Clarkson captain who died in a work accident on July 27, 1988. A Golden Knight alternate captain who served as the leader on Clarkson’s young defensive corps, the 6-2, 202-pound Scuderi led the Green and Gold in plus/minus at +4. Playing through injuries much of the season, the Bethpage, New York native scored two goals and two assists playing in 33 games.
Mac Faulkner was presented with the Paul J. Pilon Award, which was established in the memory of the former Clarkson hockey player who died in a tragic car wreck in 1937. It is presented, when appropriate, to the senior who has excelled both as a student and hockey player. Faulkner, a 6-1, 209-pound center, served as team captain in his senior campaign and was tied for third on the team in scoring with 19 points on 11 goals and eight assists. Clarkson was 22-3-2 when the King City, Ontario native scored a goal during his collegiate career. He was named to the ECACHL All-Academic team.
Cambridge, Ontario native Chris Blight received the Fran Neragin Award. Named in honor of the loyal Clarkson hockey booster who passed away in 1984, the Neragin award is presented to a player who excels in sportsmanship and academics, and who has contributed significantly to the Clarkson hockey program. The 6-0, 203-pound senior forward was one of Clarkson’s top playmakers and second-leading scorer, finishing with 18 assists and 24 points.
Lyon Porter was honored with the Knight Club Award, presented to a deserving senior who made a significant contribution to the team, achieved academically as well as being excellent role models for their teammates and the young people of the community. Porter, a native of Shaker Heights, Ohio, played a leading role in the Clarkson Hockey team’s 2004-05 Knights for Kids Charity campaign, which raised funds for Camp Ta Kum Ta, a camp for children battling the effects of cancer. The 6-2, 198-pound senior forward played in 33 games this winter and was selected to the ECACHL All-Academic team.
A native of New Hartford, NY, Steve Zalewski was honored with the Richmond Unsung Hero Award, named in honor of loyal Clarkson followers Ernie and Connie Richmond. A 5-10, 188-pound center, Zalewski enjoyed a standout freshman campaign by scoring 12 goals and seven assists for 19 points.
