Laurel Kane

The Clarkson Women’s Soccer team has enjoyed tremendous improvement during head coach Laurel Kane’s short time at Clarkson. Since joining the Golden Knights athletic staff in December of 2000, Kane has established the foundation for a bright future for the Clarkson women’s soccer program. In her first seven seasons guiding the soccer team, she led the Golden Knights to 32 victories against some of the toughest Division III competition in the Northeast, including three-quarters of Clarkson’s conference victories in the last seven seasons. Clarkson finished just one game-under the .500 mark in 2006, the team’s best showing in 13 seasons.

Kane, who currently also serves in numerous invaluable administrative roles including Assistant Athletic Director, also served as the Knights women’s lacrosse coach for three years (2001-2003), guiding Clarkson to 13 wins and two of its best seasons ever, including 2003’s school-record six victories. She has coached over 50 student-athletes in both soccer and lacrosse who have gone on to gain Liberty League All-Academic honors. Clarkson’s women’s lacrosse program also earned its first All-NYS and ECAC All-Stars under Kane’s guidance.

Prior to coming to Clarkson, Kane completed a successful season as the head women’s soccer coach at Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana. She also served as the assistant coach at the college from 1996-1999 and has served as head women’s soccer coach in the Olympic Development Program, selecting and training a team of elite soccer players in Indiana to compete at the regional level.

Kane, who attained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Earlham in 1996 and completed a Master of Science at Brockport State in the summer of 2000, played both soccer and lacrosse at Earlham College in the mid-1990s. She was a four-time all-conference player and three-time captain for the soccer team and was a captain her senior year for the lacrosse team. The YWCA also selected her as the Women in Sports Volunteer of the Year in Richmond, IN. She is married to Clarkson baseball coach Jim Kane.
