Gavin Lopata

Gavin Lopata will be entering his second season as the top assistant coach for the Golden Knights’ Swimming & Diving program for 2020-21.

A four-year member of the Golden Knights’ Swimming team, Lopata graduated in 2019 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He set a Clarkson individual mark in the 100 freestyle (46.92 seconds) at the Liberty League Championships in 2018 and he was a part of four record-breaking relay teams in 2018 and 2019. He helped the 400 freestyle and 400 medley relay teams set marks in 2018 and then was a part of the 200 freestyle and 800 freestyle relay teams that rewrote the record book in 2019.

At dual meets, Lopata won 26 individual races over his four years, including nine wins in 12 starts in 2017-18 and seven victories in 10 races in 2018-19. Lopata was selected as the 2019 Ed Sayer Memorial Award winner at Clarkson’s annual Athletic Awards Ceremony, an honor that recognizes an individual that exemplifies the former student-athlete’s spirit in exhibiting compassion for their teammates, an indelible work ethic, a passion for their sport, and an appreciate for the intricacies and importance of teamwork.
