Established as a varsity athletic team in 1983, Clarkson's swim team has been represented in the Division III Championships by four individuals, including three men. Anne Donato was the first Clarkson to swimmer to compete at the NCAA Championships, swimming at the 1986 nationals in the 200 butterfly and 400 individual medley. The following year, Jerry Miller represented the men's team in the 50 and 100 freestyle races. A decade later, Charlie Weisman earned All-American recognition in the 100 butterfly in both 1996 and 1997, completing his Clarkson career with six school records. Matt Szrama returned Clarkson to the NCAA Championships in 2005, qualifying in both the 200 individual medley and 200 freestyle, as well as participating in the 100 freestyle that year. Like Weisman, he, too, finished with six school records. Diver Brent Reid participated in the NCAA Division III Regionals three straight seasons (2018-2020), and was joined by teammate Joe Koszlowski at the regional in 2018.Â
At the league level, Al Catano was named Liberty League Swimmer of the Year after a standout performance at the conference meet in December 2014. He won a trio of events, taking first in the 200 individual medley, 200 backstroke, and 100 backstroke, including a new league record in the latter category. Paige Fronczak won the 100 freestyle in 2020, setting numerous school marks that season. Additionally, Katherine Gawyrs enjoyed one of the most memorable runs at the conference meet in 2009, entering her name into the Clarkson record books in 10 different events as both an individual and on relay teams that weekend.Â
