Rochester, N.Y. - Unable to completely recover from an early six-run deficit, the Clarkson University Baseball team dropped a 13-3 decision to RIT, Sunday afternoon in seven innings.
Clarkson drops to 8-6 overall, 1-2 in league play and travels to Cortland, for a single game matchup with the Red Dragons, on Tuesday, March 24th. RIT improves to 7-8 overall while climbing to 2-1 in the Liberty League.
The hosts took control early on a cold and rainy morning, scoring six runs in the bottom of the second. A double to open the frame was followed by a bunt single and stolen base that put runners at second and third with just one out. Two straight singles and a throwing error in the next three at-bats made it 3-0 before Jarin Morris homered for the Tigers to clear the bases and tack on another three runs.
The Knights got two back in the top of the third with Seth Albert and Aidan Kuefner both reaching in the first two at-bats of the inning. Both would steal third and second, respectively, and Joe Figliolino worked a seven pitch walk to load the bases with just one out. Liam Miller, on the mound for RIT managed to strikeout the next batter but David Harris would then connect on a two-out single to score Albert and Kuefner, making it 6-2.
A quick bottom half of the third allowed the Clarkson bats to get back up quick in the top of the fourth where the team halved the deficit. CJ Cartier and James Chagnon both singled to kickstart the frame before a Kuefner double scored Cartier from second to make it 6-3 RIT. Chagnon and Kuefner would be stranded at second however, as a strikeout and groundout ended the inning and limited the damage for the Tigers.
A scoreless fifth led to two more runs for RIT in the bottom of the sixth as another homer, this time off the bat of Max Matteucci stretched the advantage to 8-3. The Knights would go 1-2-3 in the top half of the seventh before five runs in the bottom of the inning made it 13-3, invoking the 10-run mercy rule to conclude proceedings for the weekend.
Five different Golden Knights accounted for the team's six hits, led by Harris with two hits and two RBIs. Five pitchers would see time on the mound over the course of the contest for Clarkson but Patrick Foulis would be handed the loss in his second start of the 2026 campaign, striking out four while surrendering seven hits through 1.1 innings.
Ryan Moran was awarded the win in relief for the Tigers giving up four hits but not allowing a single walk through 4.1 innings of work. RIt would finish with 12 hits at the dish.
