Clermont, FL - Facing a rain shortened Sunday afternoon, the Clarkson University Softball team fell to Framingham State 15-2 in an early afternoon matchup before having a contest against Wisconsin- La Crosse called off due to weather conditions.
The Golden Knights move to 1-3 overall and will continue their week in Florida with a single game against SUNY Geneseo on Monday. Framingham improves to 1-3 after coming up short in an extra innings affair with Wisconsin- Stout earlier in the day.
Following a delayed first pitch in game one, Clarkson jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first despite recording just one hit. Isabel Haspil walked to start and advanced to second thanks to a sacrifice bunt down the third base line from Ivy Borkoski. Haspil would then steal third before two straight walks loaded the bases with two outs. Maddie Throumolos then forced a walk to bring in the first while Karyssa Parker singled through the left side to plate the second run of the opening frame. Framingham State rattled off an immediate response in the form of two three-run home runs to take a 6-2 advantage into the second.
The bats would then explode for the Rams in the bottom of the second as they would produce four more runs on six hits to push the advantage to 10-2.
Despite the early pressure in the batter's box, Clarkson would go cold over the final three innings, tallying just three hits while Framingham continued to find the gaps, adding another run in the third and four more in the fifth to make it 15-2 and induce the run-rule after five innings.
Janzen Long would be handed the loss in game one for the Knights while Julianna Chisholm garnered her first win of the year for the Rams. As a team Clarkson would leave eight runners on base over the five frames.
Game two against Wisconsin La-Crosse managed to reach the top of the fifth inning before lightning in the area resulted in play being halted. With heavy rain moving in soon after, all games for the rest of the day were cancelled.
