Knights Lock Up Liberty League Playoff Spot with Sweep of Bard

Annandale-on-Hudson, NY – A dominating effort from start to finish put the Clarkson University Volleyball team into the Liberty League playoffs as the Golden Knights swept Bard College 25-11, 25-12, 25-8 on Friday evening.

The Golden Knights improved to 14-8 overall and 4-4 in conference play while the Raptors dropped to 5-19 and 0-8. Clarkson now heads to Pennsylvania for a pair of matches on Saturday, taking on SUNY New Paltz and Marywood to close out October.

Clarkson held Bard to a negative hitting percentage in two of three sets and a low output overall (-.115) with the Raptors recording 13 kills with 24 errors in 96 tries. On the other side of the net, the Knights hit .307, picking up double-figure kill counts in each set with only three miscues in each set.

The Knights never trailed in the opening set, though it was close at 7-5 after a service error by Clarkson. However, that was followed by a 10-2 run from the Green and Gold with kills coming from numerous spots on the court, all but ending the game off that stretch.

Set two saw Bard score four of the first six points, but the Knights quickly corrected themselves with kills by Chase Chudoba, Ainslie Reimer, and Brianna Hale. It was still close at 11-10 following a kill by Bard's Ava Rhinehart, but Clarkson rolled from that point on, outscoring the Raptors 14-2 the remainder of the way, and ending the set with two kills from Chudoba and one more from Conley Burns.

The third set resembled the second as Bard again opened with five of the first seven points, but it was a dominant run by Clarkson for the rest of the set with the Knights ending the game on a 23-3 roll. Much of that disappointment for the Raptors was self-induced as the team had only two kills against 11 errors, only three of which came off Clarkson blocks.

Ainslie Reimer finished with 12 kills and Chase Chudoba dominated with a .643 hitting percentage thanks to nine ills on only 14 swings. Chudoba also contributed six blocks, two as solo efforts and four as block assists. Brianna Hale notched 28 assists and Olivia Baxter had three aces with nine digs. Cecilia Velardi led the Knights with 11 digs.
