Knights Keep Offense Rolling in Balanced 5-0 Win Over SLU

Canton, NY – The last two times out against St. Lawrence, the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team required overtime to get ahead on the Saints, once a victory and the other time in a shootout, but Tuesday evening's contest was a different story as the Golden Knights posted a 5-0 shutout to pick up three more points in ECAC Hockey play.

The Golden Knights improved to 16-7-3 overall and 9-3-2 in ECAC Hockey while the Saints slipped to 9-15-2 and 6-8-0. Clarkson will be on the road this weekend taking on Dartmouth and Harvard.

Clarkson's shutout win over the Saints was its fourth whitewash of its Route 11 rival in the past three seasons. It was also the Knights' second five-goal margin against SLU in the 2025-26 season as the Green and Gold skated to a 6-1 win back in early November.

Although St. Lawrence had a strong start to the game with some extended offensive zone time, it was Clarkson that ended up getting on the scoreboard in the early moments of the contest. Madison Chantler took the puck into the offensive zone on the left side and skated towards the slot, firing a wrist shot for a score at just 2:25, with assists going to Andrea Trnkova and Megan McKay.

The Saints nearly tied the game around the midway mark of the period when a poke check by Rylan Haslam at the point created a breakaway. Haslam skated in alone, making several moves along the way, but she was denied on her backhand when Aneta Senkova slid over to make a stop with her left pad.

That stop proved key as it changed the game's momentum in the visitors favor. Clarkson started the second period with a goal only 90 seconds in when Rhea Hicks knocked in the puck on the doorstep after a pair of pad saves from the SLU goaltender. McKay took a shot from the point that was stopped and then another shot from Jenna Smellie was stuffed as well, but Hicks was there to make it 2-0 when she slid the puck over the line. St. Lawrence tried to get a review of the goal due to goalie interference, but the goal stuck for the Knights.

Five minutes later, Clarkson put another score on the board when Sara Manness kept her goal-scoring streak alive, extending the run to eight games. A turnover in the neutral zone was forced by Trnkova and the puck eventually found the stick of Manness, who went top shelf to beat Emma-Sofie Nordstrom at 6:23. The goal pushed Manness into a tie for the most goals among freshmen in all of NCAA Division I, her 15th of the season.

Clarkson tacked on two power-play goals in the fifth to put the game away. The first came on a quick re-entry by Sara Manness on the left side sending and she sent a centering pass to the slot for Kate Manness. She made one more look to her right, finding Janelle Evans at the bottom of the right circle for a quick goal at 1:35, the third time in the game that Clarkson scored in the first three minutes of the period. A fortunate bounce created the final for the Knights when a shot from the right side went off a SLU defender's skate and bounced off the back boards, going right to the stick of Lara Beecher at 10:03. Both Rhea Hicks and Shelby Laidlaw gained assists on the play.

The Knights finished with a 39-24 advantage in shots on goal, went 2-for-3 on the power play against the Saints 0-for-3 effort while up a skater, and also nudged past SLU with a 25-22 edge in faceoffs. Senkova's 24 stops were a season-high as she picked up her third win and second shutout of the season. Nordstrom had 34 saves for St. Lawrence.
