Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Knights Upended by Potsdam, 2-0

Potsdam, NY - Despite possessing the ball for most of the game, the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team was short on grade-A scoring opportunities and SUNY Potsdam took advantage of two long passes to claim a 2-0 win over the Golden Knights on Thursday evening.

The loss was the Knights' first of the 2025 season as the team fell to 2-1-2 on the year, while SUNY Potsdam edged forward to 3-1-1. Clarkson closes out a stretch of four games in eight days on Saturday with a contest against WPI in Massachusetts.

Clarkson had numerous chances in the early going, registering a pair of corner kicks and shots on goal in the first seven minutes, but neither really challenged the Potsdam defense. The first solid scoring chance came off the foot of Lillian Gillett's foot, but her shot bounced under the woodwork without going over the goal line in the 12th minute of the contest.

Potsdam was playing defense for most of the half and had trouble stringing passes together for extended pressure, but they took advantage of a long pass in transition, allowing Adrianna Orlando to break free near the top of the box for a fairly open look, and she converted at 22:03.

Clarkson continued to push the ball down the sidelines waiting for an open look, but Potsdam bottled up the middle and closed space before the Knights could get an open look at the frame. That was the case in the second half as well as on-lookers tended to crane their necks towards the Potsdam defensive end. Despite the prolonged runs of possession and corner kick chances, it was Potsdam that would again capitalize off a long pass. Off a direct kick near midfield, the low pass had just enough juice to sail over top of the heads of the Clarkson defense, allowing Emily Jordan to break free for an open look and a score at 56:58. The Knights continued to possess the ball and had a couple of close calls in front, especially off corner kicks, but the squad was unable to connect.

Clarkson held a 15-8 advantage in total shots and was up 8-1 in corner kick chances. Isabelle Wood made two stops for the Knights and Megan Fry had four saves for Potsdam.
