Clarkson honors the best of Golden Knights Athletics

The Golden Knights Athletics Department recently announced their end of the year awards for the department.  These awards were nominated by the coaches and voted on by the coaches and staff in the department.  

Candidates for Female Rookie of the Year were:

Emily Bulone (Softball) - Emily currently ranks 10th in Liberty League in batting average at .386 and is 15th in slugging at .544. She has six multi-hit games in past nine contests and was chosen as Liberty League Rookie of the Week once. 

Fallon Griffin (Basketball) - Fallon finished 24th in Liberty League in scoring average (8.6 ppg) after missing last season due to injury. She was tied for third in 3-pointers made (48) and twice named Liberty League Rookie of the Week. 

Grace Hanson (Volleyball) - Grace was named Liberty League Honorable Mention All-Star and was twice selected as Liberty League Rookie of the Week. She ranked ninth in conference in kills per set (fourth in conference-only matches). Also was sixth in conference only matches for points per game (3.54 ppg).

Fiona Reilly (Swimming) - Fiona set a new school standard in 200 individual medley at the Liberty League Championships, and swam in three finals at conference meet, including 'A' finals in 200 breaststroke (8th place). She was 10th in 200 IM and 13th in 100 breaststroke and won nine individual races during the regular season.

The Female Rookie of the Year was Grace Hanson.

Candidates for Male Rookie of the Year were:

Edouard Brochu (Alpine Skiing)- Edouard finished 18th out of 143 skiers at the USCSA National Championships, placing 15th in giant slalom, and 59th in slalom. He won the slalom at the USCSA Eastern Regionals and was 7th in giant slalom. Was named a MacConnell Division All-Star and came in 2nd at FIS race (D1/D3) in slalom once.

Matt Clarner (Nordic Skiing)- Matt came in first in four regular-season races and was runner-up in three more races. He placed 19th at USCSA Nationals, including 7th in 7.5K Freestyle, 28th in Classic Sprint and 26th in 15K Classic. 

Frank Consolazio (Cross Country)- Frank won multiple Liberty League Rookie of the Week honors. He finished 2nd at the CCOC event, was 58th at the Liberty League Championships, and 84th at the NCAA Mideast Regionals. Also had two top 10 finishes in the first two races of the season. 

Tyler Yacawych (Golf) -Tyler had a scoring average of 77.69 strokes per round in 13 competitive rounds in 2024-25.  He was named Liberty League Rookie of the Week on two occasions. He shot 75 or less in five rounds, including four of five past rounds.

Nominees for Female Scholar Athlete of the Year were:

Madelynn Barnum (Lacrosse) 
9 semesters - 3.99 undergrad/3.963 grad Mechanical Engineering/MBA

A two-time IWLCA All-Region selection and likely to get a third, leads the Liberty League
in goals by nearly 20 (68) and points (83). Broke own single-season goals record and has 
points record in sight. Programs all-time leader in goals, points, draws, and caused turnovers.

Anne Cherkowski (Hockey)
9 semesters - 3.989 undergrad/3.778 grad Civil Engineering/MBA

Anne is a ECAC Hockey First-Team All-Star, ranked sixth in conference in points with 45 and ninth in goals with 17. In league-only games, was tied for conference lead with 28 points as
well as assists with 17. Finished Clarkson career with 141 points (59 goals, 82 assists)

Ashley Currier (Volleyball)
5 semesters - 3.880 Mechanical Engineering

Currier was named to the Liberty League Honor Roll on four occasions in the month of October alone.  Served multiple roles as hitter, sette, and defender, and averaged 5.36 assists, 1.02 kills,
0.29 aces, 2.58 digs, and 0.44 blocks per set. 

Molly DiCaprio (Soccer)
7 semesters - 4.00 Mechanical Engineering

Molly was a four-time Liberty League All-Star and All-Region player in 2023, as well as Academic All-American in 2023. All-time leader at Clarkson in goals against average (1.06), wins (29), and shutouts (21). 

Cassidy Dumont (Basketball)
7 semesters - 3.632 Psychology

Cassidy finished her collegiate career sixth all-time at Clarkson in points (1250), seventh in points per game (12.89), 11th in steals, tied for fourth in field goals made, and fifth in 3-point
field goals made. Selected as conference all-star and all-region in 2022-23. 

Zoey Kovach (Softball)
7 semesters - 3.896 Engineering & Management

Zoey is a two-time Liberty League All-Star and former All-Region player, ranks among conference leaders in batting average and doubles. Is second all-time at Clarkson in doubles (30) and is fourth all-time in hits (129). Also just two short of single-season mark for doubles in 2025.

Ellen Patterson (Swimming)
7 semesters - 3.951 Chemical Engineering

Patterson participated in a pair of finals at the Liberty League Championships, taking 24th in the 
500 freestyle as well as 19th in the 1650 freestyle. Won a pair of individual races during
the regular-season, the 500 free and 1650 free.

The Female Scholar Athlete of the Year was Madelynn Barnum

Nominees for Male Scholar Athlete of the Year were:

Griffin Emerson (Lacrosse)
5 semesters - 3.758 Global Supply Chain Management
Graduating in three years. Ranks 18th nationally in goals against average (8.14) and 60th
in save percentage (.550). Is third in Liberty League in goals against average and named
Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week once.

Tristan Miranda
7 semesters - 3.952 Electrical Engineering
Swam in three finals at the Liberty League Championships, coming in 17th in the 1650
freestyle, 20th in the 400 individual medley, and 24th in the 500 freestyle events. 
Won two starts in dual meets during the regular season.

Kyle Otis (Soccer)
5 semesters - 3.987 Software Engineering
Liberty League Second-Team All-Star, helped team rank 30th of 407 schools in scoring
defense and in top 50 in shutout percentage (8 of 17 games). Ranked second on team
in minutes played despite missing two games and earned Liberty League weekly honors twice

Riley Sawyer (Cross Country)
7 semesters - 3.923 Chemical Engineering
Time improved in every race over the course of the season. Finished fourth at CCOC, 
was 44th at Liberty League Championships, and was the Knights top finisher at the 
NCAA Mideast Regionals, coming in 53rd of 172 runners.

Trey Taylor (Men's Hockey)
5 semesters - 3.7222 Business Administration
Named CCM/AHCA East Second-Team All-American and ECAC First-Team All-Star.
Ranked second in ECAC Hockey in scoring as a defenseman (29 points) and led 
conference in assists as defenseman (20). Helped team rank in top 10 nationally in 
scoring defense (2.23 goals per game)  After the season, Taylor signed an NHL Contract with the Dallas Stars.


The Male Scholar Athlete of the Year was Kyle Otis

Candidates for Female Athlete of the Year were:

Madelynn Barnum (Lacrosse) -Madelynn was a two-time IWLCA All-Region selection and likely to get a third, she leads the Liberty League in goals by nearly 20 (68) and points (83). She broke own single-season goals record and has points record in sight. Maddy is the programs all-time leader in goals, points, draws, and caused turnovers.

Devin Fitzpatrick (Softball) - Devin set single-season home run record and career home run record at Clarkson. With games to play, she is one short of most homers in the Liberty League since 2015. Also ranks in top five in ERA and strikeouts as pitcher. She was named All-Region last year and is two-time Liberty League First-Team.

Hannah Goetz (Alpine Skiing) - Hannah placed 17th of 142 skiers at the USCSA National Championships, including 21st in the slalom and 25th in the giant slalom. She was 7th in the giant slalom at USCSA Eastern Regionals and 11th in slalom at the same event. Goetz was named a MacConnell Division All-Star. 

Allyson Treichel (Volleyball) -Allyson was named Liberty League Second-Team All-Star for the third time in career. She ranked among conference leaders in blocks (0.84 bps) and hitting percentage (.277) and finished her collegiate career ranking in Clarkson's top 10 all-time in hitting percentage. 

Haley Winn (Hockey) - Haley was a Top 10 Finalist for Patty Kazmaier Award, CCM First-Team All-American, ECAC Hockey Player of the Year. Ranked 14th nationally in points per game and 7th in assists per game despite being a defender. Led the ECAC in blocked shots with 57. 

The 2024-25 Female Athlete of the Year was Haley Winn.

Candidates for Male Athlete of the Year were:

Braeden Burns (Basketball) - Braeden was chosen Liberty League Second-Team All-Star. Burns has the most points by a player through their sophomore season at Clarkson in over five decades. He was ranked fifth in scoring average overall, but second in conference only games. 2nd in FG made, 10th in rebounding, 3rd in FG %.

Cam Jerrett (Baseball)- Cam ranks fourth in Liberty League in batting average (.427) and also top five in OBP (.519) and top 10 in slugging (.539). He was named to D3Baseball.com National Team of the Week once.  Leads team in hits, runs batted in, and times on base. 

Carter Kladstrup (Soccer)- Carter finished 2024 ranked seventh nationally in goals against average (.516) and third in save percentage (.890) while also in top 25 nationally in shutouts. He was a Liberty League Second-Team All-Star and led the conference in all goalie categories except saves per game. 

Ayrton Martino (Hockey)- Ayrton was a Hobey Baker Top 10 Finalist, CCM/AHCA East First-Team All-American, and the ECAC Hockey Player of the Year. Scored 25 goals and 51 points, most by a Clarkson player since the 1996-97 season, easily outdistancing the rest of the conference in scoring, both in league and overall.  After the season, Martino signed an NHL Contract with the Dallas Stars.

Eric Spoth (Golf)- Eric has lowest scoring average (75.41) of any Clarkson golfer in over a decade. He has scored 75 or lower in 10 of 17 rounds, including a 67 shot at Partridge Run in September in which he recorded a hole-in-one. Twice named Liberty League Golfer of Week. 

Matt Szwagulinski (Lacrosse)- Matt easily leads the conference in caused turnovers per game (2.87), the highest figure in the Liberty League since the conference began tracking them in 2014 and the 10th best number in the country in 2025. Named to numerous Liberty League Weekly Honor rolls. 

The 2024-25 Male Athlete of the Year was Ayrton Martino.

Ed Sayer Memorial Award:  

The Ed Sayer Memorial Award, an honor that recognizes an individual that exemplifies the former Clarkson swimmer's spirit in exhibiting compassion for their teammates, an indelible work ethic, a passion for their sport, and an appreciation of the intricacies and importance of teamwork.  Nominees for this year's award were:  Kayla Gault (Volleyball), Gabriela McSwieney (Swimming), Ryan Richardson (Hockey), and Veronica Tache (Volleyball).  Gabriela McSwieney was named the 2025 Ed Sayer Memorial Award Winner.
