Dumont Pours in Season-High 23 in Clarkson's Win Over William Smith

Potsdam, NY – A run of three 3-pointers from Raelin Burns in a stretch of just over a minute helped put the game away for the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team as the Golden Knights led from wire-to-wire in a 76-65 Liberty League victory over William Smith on Friday evening at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights improved to 8-12 overall and 4-9 in conference games while the Herons fell to 2-18 and 2-11. Clarkson takes on RIT on Saturday afternoon.

Clarkson came out strong with a 3-pointer from the corner by Fallon Griffin on the opening possession, beginning a stretch of 19 straight points to open the game, capped by a layup from Elizabeth Aiossa with a little over two minutes to go in the quarter. The Herons got on the board with five points on consecutive possessions and used that momentum in the second quarter, climbing all the way back to within three after a Miranda Martin layup at 3:17 made it 25-22. Clarkson recovered after the sprint by the Herons and closed out the quarter with a 7-2 roll of its own, finished off a last second base line jumper from Raelin Burns.

Near the midway point of the third quarter, an Amelia McCulley 3-pointer put a scare into the Knights as the Herons were back within two at 38-36, but Clarkson responded by going to Bella Doyle, something that happened repeatedly in the period, to halt the run. In the waning moments of the third, it was Cassidy Dumont's turn to get hot, as she made some interior shots and short jumpers to help Clarkson push the margin back to 10 through 30 minutes.

William Smith would hang around in the fourth quarter, remaining within two or three possessions of the Knights, but Raelin Burns sunk 3-pointers on three straight possessions to put the Green and Gold back up by 12. Clarkson made the stick, winning by 11.

Cassidy Dumont had a season-high 23 points on 9-for-18 shooting to go along with five rebounds and six assists, while Bella Doyle posted a double-double on 21 points (10-for-13 from the field) and 10 rebounds. Raelin Burns scored 19, most of which came in the second half.

For William Smith, Molly Walsh tossed in 13, Amelia McCulley scored 12 points, and Giana Lobozzo had 11 points and seven rebounds.
